About Us

Shepherd Glen Elementary School is home to about 300 students in Grades K through 6. We are proud of our diverse population and value each one of our students. Our wonderful staff strives every day to help our students achieve their potential.

Located at 1 Skiff Street Extension in Hamden, Connecticut, this is a K–6 public school that has been an important part of the Hamden community since it opened in 1972.  The school building is notable for its innovative circular design, developed by architects Carlin and Pozzi, which was intended to maximize the amount of space devoted to student learning. The school's name has its own connection to Hamden history: the land was once a common sheep-grazing area known as “Shepherd's Pen,” and “Glen” was substituted for “Pen” because the school sits at the base of a hill. Today, Shepherd Glen continues that legacy as a diverse school community of nearly 300 students, with more than 20 languages represented among its families, and a mission centered on developing curious, creative, compassionate, collaborative, and critical-thinking learners.
